Renovation Update (from Stu Read)

What a glorious week! We closed on our construction financing with 1st Bank on Tuesday. On Thursday our long-awaited Building Permit was issued from the Town of Breckenridge. And the groundbreaking celebration on Friday morning was blessed by a surprise visit by our patron saint, St. John the Baptist himself! What a joy to have finally reached this point together!

This is a brief update to let you know what to expect in the next couple of weeks as construction commences. Nate and crew will:

  • temporarily detach the narthex (the historic church) from the parish hall.

  • remove the storage shed (it has already detached itself!) and discard it.

  • remove the historical windows and doors. (These will be stored and subsequently restored ~ preserving their "historicity" ~ and then re-installed at the appropriate time. All windows will be able to be raised and lowered with ease!)

  • bring in the beams and shoring lumber ordered to prop up the historic church for the "Big Dig" and the pouring of the foundation.

  • install construction fencing all around the building.

  • commence digging under the church in the next 10-14 days.

SJB is now a true construction area. Remember: only authorized personnel are allowed on site. The TOB now requires a COVID-19 safety plan from all construction sites, which also restricts all unauthorized visitors. Please respect these safety protocols!

Lastly, a reminder from Wally that he will accept any early pledge payments as this will allow us to use more of our money now and less borrowed cash down the road.
