Audio-Visual/IT – John Landon

We have been working with Mountain Multivision and Sound (MM&S), a locally owned audio-visual company, to develop a comprehensive and cost-effective plan for sound and A/V components in the church as well as in the parish hall and the lower level.

Nave/Sanctuary/Sacristy – Amy Evans & Karla Schapansky

Sacristy and Nave

Sanctuary designed, too

Interiors chosen, done

We’ve met with Shana Bundy, our project architect, and Elyse Chudacoff, designer with Stais Architecture and Interiors, and made some revisions to the design of the Sacristy. One meeting was spent choosing all the interior materials. Amy and Karla are also researching local craftsmen to refurbish some of our furnishings.  We are waiting for the final drawings.

Infrastructure - Allen Schapansky & Doug Bugner

We have met with our mechanical contractor and the St. John’s construction team to discuss the advantages of a Geothermal System making our renovation more Green friendly.  In addition, we reviewed the drawings issued by Stais architecture and requested changes that would enhance the functionality of our renovation in regard to the sacristy. The Town of Breckenridge required changes for ADA compliance.  We have asked for input from other subcommittees on the functionality and location of lights, switches and outlets.  All responses have been passed on to our architect for consideration into final plans.

Kitchen – Barbara Calvin

Being given the task of subcommittee chair for the kitchen mid-way through the planning process was a challenge, to be sure.  Getting up to speed on the limits and possibilities of the new kitchen area has involved a steep learning curve.  We have been introduced to many new kinds of surfaces and materials.  Hopefully, our efforts will result in a beautiful new kitchen that will serve our congregation for years to come.

Parish Hall/Gathering Place - Kathy Landon

The Parish Hall/Gathering Place committee met with Shana Bundy at the offices of Stais Architecture and Interior Design on July 28.  We reviewed the design plan and discussed the use of the space for hosting Tuesday community dinners and a flexible Sunday School program.  We approved the carpet and flooring options selected by their designers.

 Landscape - Anne Galluzzo

The landscaping committee, composed of Maggie Ducayet, Marsha Read and myself,  is busy dreaming of a future landscape!  Much of our activity will take place after the building has been remodeled, but our goals have been established:   To complement the historic beauty of the church, to minimize maintenance, and to reduce fire hazards.  A provisional landscape plan includes rock and pebbles around the foundation, shrubbery and trees placed along the perimeter, a designated flower bed, and a small patio area in the back.  We are even considering whether we can make use of the giant boulder dug up under the church!

 Interior Design - Katherine Sutherlin

The Interior Design Committee has continued to play an active role in the overall design of the entire facility.  Beginning with the Nave and continuing on throughout the gathering spaces.  We help to make decisions on all design aspects from the colors of the walls to the bathroom tile.  Elyse Chudacoff, designer at Stais, has been a pleasure to work with and has made our job much easier.

Accessibility – The Rev. Robert Franken

The accessibility subcommittee (Marsha Read, Rick Weinman, myself) met early on with the architect to go over the plans. We suggested automatic door openers on the exterior south-side door, as well as in the restrooms and the entry from the parish hall into the church for ease of accessibility.  It was later determined that such restroom doors would require a variance, which we still hope to get from the town, to have auto openers due to space limitations.  If a variance is not possible, we will use extremely low-effort doors on the restrooms.  The restrooms will have automatic lights and fans to eliminate the need to reach for switches.

We also advocated for a heated sidewalk from the parking lot to the south-side exterior door to make that entry more accessibility-friendly.  We reviewed the location of the ramp leading to the church from the parish hall as well as the location of the coffee bar and provided a general review of the downstairs space for accessibility.

We are confident that our renewed building will be accessible and welcoming for all of God’s people.

Columbarium - The Rev. Charlie Brumbaugh & Patrick McWilliams

The columbarium has been removed and safely stored. The cremains of loved ones are temporarily stored behind the Altar in the sanctuary of Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church in Dillon. The columbarium's new home will be downstairs in the Gathering Place. The stained glass window will be restored and backlit. During the Renovation, several new niches have been reserved by parishioners.
